Russian Tycoon Boris Berezovsky's Divorce Could Cost $172M

Move over Tiger Woods, there's an even pricier high-profile divorce in the works.

While Tiger Woods and estranged wife Elin Nordegren Woods have reached a tentative $100 million settlement, The Age reported that Russian tycoon Boris Berezovsky may have to pay out roughly $172 million to divorce his second wife.

It's not his first time dealing with the legal system, this time in the UK, which is probably much different than what Atlanta divorce lawyers typically deal with. He has survived murder attempts, defended himself against fraud charges and won a libel case, according to the article.

But second wife Galina Berezovsky is proving to be his most difficult case. She filed for divorce in the High Court in London, which was granted last week. Attorneys say the settlement, £100 million (or about $172 million USD) would more than double the UK's current divorce settlement record of £48 million.

The couple were married for 18 years and have two children, both of whom live with their mother in a Kensington penthouse overlooking Hyde Park in London. They have been separated since the mid-1990s and Galina Berezovsky described herself as a "housewife" in court documents.

Boris Berezovsky, meanwhile, lives in a Surrey estate with his girlfriend of 15 years, Yelena Gorbunova, and their two children.

So what took her so long to file for divorce?

She reportedly became irritated at news stories referring to Yelena Gorbunova as her estranged husband's wife. Boris Berezovsky's fortune has been estimated at about £1 billion (or roughly $1.5 billion USD).

While the divorce proceedings of the world's rich and famous regularly make headlines, regular Atlantans are entitled to the services of top-notch Atlanta family law attorneys.
