It isn't all that unusual for a silver fox in Hollywood to date or even marry a woman less than half his age (Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, for example). But somehow it still makes headlines when older women, or "cougars," hook up with or marry younger men.
The latest celebrity cougar news is 50-year-old Linda Hogan's engagement to 21-year-old Charlie Hill, as reported by celebrity gossip and news site Popeater.com. Linda Hogan is the ex-wife of former professional wrestler Hulk Hogan, with whom she has a 22-year-old daughter.
I wonder what odds Atlanta divorce lawyers are giving this marriage. Maybe it is true love, but has he thought about the fact that his wife will be 70 when he hits middle age? Again, it's worth repeating that no one seems to mind when it's an older male celebrity hooking up with a barely legal young woman.
She started dating Charlie Hill when he was just 19 years old.
Hulk Hogan (56 years old) also robbed the cradle after the couple's divorce, marrying 36-year-old Jennifer McDaniel. Adding to the "ick" factor, several celebrity observers have said Hulk Hogan's new fiancé is a dead-ringer for his own daughter, Brooke Hogan.
But perhaps the most disturbing part of this whole story is a portion of an interview Hulk Hogan gave to Rolling Stone last year about his ex-wife's then-19-year-old boyfriend:
"You're driving through downtown Clearwater [Florida] and see a 19-year-old boy driving your Escalade, and you know that a 19-year-old boy is sleeping in your bed, with your wife ... I totally understand O.J. I could have turned everything into a crime scene like O.J., cutting everybody's throat."
Yikes.
I'm sure any Georgia family law attorney would advise his or her clients not to say anything remotely like that in print. But they likely would advise clients to just get on with their own lives and never look back.
